Esthetics Diploma Program

The Esthetics Diploma program at MTG Healthcare Academy focuses on obtaining comprehensive information on current facial and body treatments using specialized products, devices, and techniques, supported by an understanding of basic anatomy, chemistry, and physiology.

Overview

Students will also be taught effective communication and professional ethics, sterilization and sanitation, salon/spa business strategies, ownership and operations, client service essentials, and guidance in industry specific career development.

Delivery

  • Combination of on-campus and hands-on learning that will be augmented with an online learning platform called the “Learn About Beauty” (LAB) by Pivot Point International.
  • Practical skills are performed on campus in a simulated salon setting with the assistance of highly qualified and experienced instructors.
  • Students will switch roles between Esthetician and client, experiencing how to become comfortable providing and receiving services. Additionally, students put their skills to practice with real clients.

Admission Requirements

Standard Admission

Students must meet the following criteria:

1. Alberta High School Diploma, verified by transcript OR
2. Non-Alberta equivalent OR
3. Successful completion of General Equivalency Diploma (GED) OR
4. A transcript, diploma, or certificate from another country, assessed at an Alberta-recognized assessment service OR
5. English 12 or equivalent
6. And a successful personal interview with the school advisor

English Language Proficiency requirement

Courses at MTG Healthcare Academy are primarily taught in Canadian English. To qualify for admission:

  1. Learners must demonstrate their language proficiency, typically through their high school or college/university transcripts, or through a test of English language proficiency:

    – English Test / Program Minimum required score Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) 7 in each strand OR

    – Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) minimum 7 in all sections OR

    – International English Language Testing System (IELTS) minimum 6 in all sections OR

    – Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) minimum of 77 OR

    – Duolingo Language Test 95 OR

  2. Three (3) years of full-time secondary education at a Canadian high school where the primary language of instruction was English. OR

  3. Two (2) years of full-time study at a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada where the primary language of instruction was English. OR

  4. Three (3) years of full-time study at the college level in a country where the medium of instruction is English.

Mature Admission

Students must meet the following criteria:

  1. At least 18 years of age upon commencement AND

  2. Academic achievement test to demonstrate required

    competency:

    – Achievement Test Minimum required score

    Wonderlic Scholastic Level Examination 20 OR

    – Accuplacer Test 237

  3. And a successful personal interview with the school
